 | | I am still working on WordPress being the full time blog for The 6th Floor. I am working wbetween my current host, IPower and WordPress to resolve an export issue that only saves a small portion of my total content, so I can import it to my host, IPower. Not sure where the problem lies or why only a portion of the content is exported correctly. Once I get that resolved, then The 6th Floor will be powered by WordPress full time.
Currently the URL, www.the6thfloor.com is redirected to wordpress.the6thfloor.com. The result is that none of my images saved on my host appear on the redirected web page. I really don’t feel like going through all the posts from 1999 and redirecting images to show up on the site. Thus the need to get the export function to work properly.
In the mean time I will keep the domain name redirected, as this site offers easier management for me. I might even be able to change some of the images on the pages, like Ham Radio, Antennas and 1968 Cougar. So thanks for bearing with this much needed changes. Things will be back to normal before my kitchen and downstairs are completely remodeled. I am sure that is something my wife wants to hear. | | W6ONV on Sunday 22 August 2010 - 11:04:35 | Read/Post Comment: 0 | pfft...I learned something, STU is not the name to use on SSB. I had too many repeats asking for my name. I had others who mistook STU for STEVE. Much like the last few NAQPs I had great intentions of "BIC" for 10 hours, unfortunately circumstances changed and I could only put in 6.5 hours. Seems my wife dropped a birthday celebration for her father, so I could not work much on 40M or any on 80M. Apologies to Team #2 not getting in the full 10 hours.
Much like previous attempts I was not able to get any good frequencies runs going. I had two such attempts, which netted me a grand total of 18 Qs in 15 minutes. Like I said not much to write home about. I am sure it is still the height of the hex beam (20') that continues to hamper my contribution in all contests.
S&P was only a bit better through out the day. I had hoped to find some joy on 15M and 10M, but both were crap from my QTH. I could not hear a thing, so it was all 20M, all day. I moved to 40M just after 0000 in an attempt to work some mults before shutting down for the evening. It was noisy from my QTH, and while I heard some good signals I could not be heard. It was my intention to work the last 4 hours of the contest, but as circumstances had it, I got no time in on 80M and only 50 minutes on 40M.
Regardless, I still had a good time through out the day. I think I worked all the stations in TX early on in the contest, LOL. I had a very hard time hearing any stations in Canada this weekend. I did work BC, ON and NS, but nothing heard from any of the others. I guess it's time to break down and buy that Rohn H50 mast in an attempt to get the hex at the roof line of the second story. | | W6ONV on Saturday 21 August 2010 - 19:41:12 | Read/Post Comment: 1 | I had great intentions to have the new site online and functioning without any problems, but as you can see that is not the case since I am back to the previous design. While I would like to say I have had time to work on the site, that has not been the case. The kitchen is bogging me down on my days off and work as been a place to relax.
I had no intentions of participating in the NAQP SSB Contest this weekend, but had hoped to play for about 90 minutes. I was fortunate enough to get someone to work for me, so I decided I could put in a full 10 hours. Not sure the XYL will like hearing that since the remodel is still not complete. In my defense, the cabinets are the next phase, which will start on Tuesday morning.
I did participate in the January edition of the NAQP SSB, but only put in about an hour for 31 QSO, 19 mults and a score of 570 points. I was surprised to see that a majority of those contacts were on 40M and the remainder were on 80M. With any luck I am hoping for a comparable showing on those bands this contest.
I had planned on 300 QSOs in the CW and RTTY contests the past few months, unfortunately with solar conditions being what they were I did not come close to either goal. For the SSB contest I am dialing back my total in hopes of feeling as if the contest were a success. I am planning for 250 QSOs, 125 mults and a final score of 31,000. I feel this is achievable. | | W6ONV on Friday 20 August 2010 - 17:32:12 | Read/Post Comment: 0 | Last night I finished moving nearly 12 years of posts to Wordpress. I have been looking for a new CMS or blog for The 6th Floor, a design that has been rather stagnate for about 4 years. Moving the database to Wordpress allows me a bit more freedom and creativity when it comes to posting. the only drawback I have found initially, not being able to post videos from lesser known sites. That shouldn't cause too many problems.
I was hoping to export the all the content from the database and import it to my host, iPower, unfortunately the export function does not capture all the data. So in the meantime I have done the next best thing and redirected the URL to the the6thfloor.wordpress.com site. It will work and in the meantime give me some time to troubleshoot the problems I am facing.
I expect continuing changes over the next few weeks as I work on moving the site over to iPower, but enjoy the site. I still have about 18 months of posts to finish that were archived, but it's mostly irrelevant stuff at this point. I also expect the theme of the site to change as I work to add 6th Floor style to it from my former sites.
*edit* I am already seeing some issues with the redirect of the URL. Images are no longer being accessed and posted because I do not reference my home directory that had all the previous file directories. I am looking for a work around, so bear with me. If I cannot get it to work, then I will go back to the previous web site design until some more testing is done. | | W6ONV on Sunday 15 August 2010 - 17:43:09 | Read/Post Comment: 0 | While the Community Shield match usually kicks off the start of the new English Premier League, this was the start of the EPL today, with big names, big teams and big money headlining the weekend matches.
While my horse in this race is actually in the Championship League, I have been a support of Liverpool over the last 5-7 years. Today was a enjoyable start to the EPL with Villa putting the smack down on West Ham, 3-0 as Robert Green (England National Team member) looked terrible. On the other hand at least he got a start, unlike Shay Given was was upstaged by youngster Joe Hart. Way to go Roberto Mancini, not quite sure what spurred that move. I guess you can make a few million selling Shay to Arsenal now, since they have no good keepers, but need one in order to compete.
It was a great day for Blackpool supporters, who made their debut in the Prem and came off a highly impressive spanking of Wigan, 4-0. Roberto Martinez must have talked tactics too much during the 2010 World Cup because his squad was downright terrible today. Another loser was Everton, not sure why David Moyes can’t get his boys to start quick, since they finished last season so strong.
It was Spurs and Man City that got things started with a 1-1 draw, but it should have been a match that Spurs took all 3 points, if it were not for the play of Joe Hart. Even though Hart saw no time on the pitch during the World Cup, he played like a veteran today. I still think Given should have started. Hart spent all of last year at Birmingham on loan from Man City, where he played very well.
How about Chelsea, 6-0 over WBA! Welcome back to the Premiership, not quite the return West Brom had in mind. Oh yeah, Drogba netted a hat trick. Chelsea looked good, but West Brom looked bad.
I am participating in only one fantasy football pool this season, sponsored by www.premierleague.com where I finished strong last year, but have gained some more experience and think I am ready for a better year. As for my game predictions, I did not do very well. But it is early and I know I will fair much better in that department this season.
Finally The Super Cup is next weekend between scudetto winners, InterMilan and runner-up, AS Roma. The following week starts the actual Serie A. The beautiful game is back. | | W6ONV on Saturday 14 August 2010 - 23:45:29 | Read/Post Comment: 0 |
